Celebrating 5 years of STEM and empowering the next generation of tech talent

Feb 9, 2023 | Featured By Takeaway.com

As a business, our growth has been driven by the power of technology. But growth doesn’t happen without people.  And our people are at the heart of everything we do.

Our platforms today host millions of customers and over 680,000 connected partners in 20 countries across the world. Providing the best service to our customers and partners would not be possible without our talented tech team. In line with this, we want to ensure we’re doing all we can to inspire and give back to the young talent of today by fostering the innovation of tomorrow. And we’re absolutely delighted to now be celebrating 5 years of our STEM programme.

Since launching our STEM programme in 2018, we’ve made non-stop progress. Over the past few years, we’ve built an award-winning team of more than 200 STEM Ambassadors. From winning a Mayor of London award to being highly commended by STEM, we’re delighted to have been recognised for our efforts in this space. Altogether, We’ve worked with many incredible schools and organisations,  reaching more than 10,000 young people annually to inspire and educate them about careers in technology.

We recognise that we as a business, and other technology companies like us, have a responsibility to open up opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to groups who have been historically underrepresented in these fields. From sponsoring Color in Tech’s Black Tech Fest to inspire more young black students to consider a career in tech, mentoring students from underrepresented backgrounds through Career Accelerator, to working with Code First Girls to educate female students about technology, we’re pleased to have been able to work with some fantastic organisations to engage with young people from a range of backgrounds.

What’s more, we understand the importance of rolling our programme out globally to reach even more young people and we now run our STEM programme in six markets from Canada, the Netherlands and Israel, with plans to roll this out to more countries soon. As well as this, we’re really excited to build on the work we’ve already started. This includes linking our STEM programme to our Early Careers Programme so that we see a pipeline of talented young people join our business as well as engaging with even more young people generally, to support and inspire them in building successful careers across technology.
