How it works

There are three parts to Career Accelerator

1-1 Career Mentorship

Employer Workshops

A series of employer workshops are arranged on a weekly basis delivered by digital experts. These workshops help demystify career opportunities in different areas of the digital sector.

During the workshops students have the opportunity to

  • Find out about digital companies and their company cultures.
  • Gain insight into specific digital sectors.
  • Find out about companies’ application processes.
  • Find out what companies are looking for when recruiting young people.
  • Learn about the key competencies that young people should have and how to develop these.
  • Receive advice on how to secure jobs in the digital sector.
  • Ask questions to employers.

1-1 Career Mentorship

Students will be assigned a mentor who works in the digital sector in order to develop ambitious and realistic career goals and make steps to achieve these.

During the 1-1 mentoring sessions students will have the opportunity to

  • Learn about their Mentor’s career journey.
  • Find out about trends in the digital sector.
  • Receive support articulating their career vision, as well as developing empowering beliefs.
  • Receive support breaking down their career vision into tangible career goals.
  • Gain insight into the importance and excitement of having a career.
  • Receive recommendations to do with resources and networks to get involved with.
  • Learn about the importance of soft skills and how to best develop these further.
  • Learn about the importance of diversity in the digital sector.
  • Learn about digital pet projects that they can get involved with.

Work Placements

Students take part in meaningful work placements where they develop their knowledge and skills and gain insight into a real world working environment.

During the employer projects

  • Students get allocated a specific team and project to work on.
  • Work tasks are designed to develop specific skills and knowledge for the students.
  • Students develop a body of work which they can showcase to future employers.
  • Students are responsible for pitching their work to their colleagues at the end of the project.
